Today's Warm Up topic is one of those things you just know is going to snowball (like the wrist straps) and be the next silly mainstream spaz session we'll be unlucky enough to see on Fox News. It seems that the outcry against the Wii as a gateway into the seedy world of internet pornography has begun. Here's the deal: a few adult-oriented sites have decided to optimize areas for the Wii browser, in the same way we saw Finetune offer Wii-friendly content. But there are some people who freak out any time adult content is made more accessible, because they invariably add the phrase "for children." And this week, it's a news station in Texas that's making a fuss about the potential damage to the children ... because, after all, video games are only for kids, right?
Adults -- that's right, people over the age of 18 -- are an enormous slice of the gamer pie, and yet we are consistently ignored any time someone brings up game or console content. No one talks about the adults, who have every right to play whatever they want ... just like no one talks about measures like parental controls, or hey, good ol' fashioned supervision. We're gonna guess that you probably don't think of the Wii as a devil machine, or you wouldn't be here, but we are curious about your take on this whole situation.

The balance needs to be somewhere between nannying the grown ups, whilst making it a safe device to have in the living room.
This is the key point for my family, the wii is in the living room and is something we use together. It's what first attracted us to the Wii and what will keep us safe in the knowledge that its not being abused.

This is so stupid! If they dont want the kids going on the wii and surfing porn then why do they have it connected to the internet?! The biggest problem is that most parents are so ignorant and dont care enough to learn about new technology and what there kids are doing. 99% of the people have a computer inorder to have the internet connection. So if little johnny is watching porn on his wii then hes watching porn on the PC long before.
Being 23 myself it was one of the big selling points that there was a web browser. Frist thing i thought of was PORN! ;)

The solution to all this mainstream media nonsense? Stupidity should be a capital offence.

What site is this now?
I'm with comedians George Carlin and Bill Maher on this one. Our society claims to do too much "for the children."
"We have to stop porn; for the children." They aren't doing it for the children they're doing it because they (usually religious fundamentalists and politicians who like to pander to the nuttiest cross section of society: religious fundamentalists) never had any sort of healthy way of dealing with their own sexuality (or lack thereof) and whatever other frustrations they had as youths.
It comes down to the fact that parents should be mindful of their small children and what they watch & play. If the kid is a little psycho, this should be carried on into teen hood. However I never understood why teens aren't allowed porn. When I look back at my life, it was as a teenager that I really needed porn. That was also the peak of my collection too. Who are they trying to kid by restricting them? Do they really think teens won't get their hands on it? How stupid can they be. Thankfully, teens now-a-days have better access to porn than any generation ever. Probably why teen rape has gone down. Just like the fact that carjacking has gone down since GTA gained popularity.

As soon as the Wii had the Opera Trial, I jumped into a few porn sites. The feeling of excitement was followed closely by a really dirty feeling like my virgin Wii had been impregnated. I immediately signed off like I had done something insanely wrong.
I try washing my hands and the dirt won't come off.

"Sin"sationalist. Wii has Internet. Internet has "adult content". Wii can get said "adult content". Whoopdeedoo.
Next we'll hear how the Wii is responsible for child kidnappings after a 14 year old girl posts her address onto MySpace.com using the Wii Opera browser. No matter that her parents could have told her not to post personal information online AND could have been monitoring her to make sure she was following their rules.
Whether it's violence, cursing, or adult situations, don't blame the media, blame those who can restrict access to such things but choose not to.

Is this going to happen every time a device comes out that can browse the internet?
Oh, of course it is, because most local television news organizations are lazy and amoral.

I can't help but be reminded of Fox News' report of rampent porn on the PSP (seriously, if you're that desperate...) I totally agree; being a 26 year old male, if I want to use my Wii to....ummmmm, well, I can't finish the sentance, but you know what I mean. People need to remember, at the end of the day, that THEY are raising their children even if that means (gasp) sitting down and having a conversation with them. Just wait until an S&M game heavy on the spank motions comes out for the Wii, then we'll have some real fun.

SENSATIONALISTIC JOURNALISM?!?
ON *MY* RIGHT-WING, VAGUELY CHRISTIAN NETWORKS?!?
The American media system loves scaring people, because it keeps them from thinking about what's going on around them and keeps them glued to their televisions. Remember when they were busy drumming up the "potential threat" of terrorist bomb attacks in the US after 9/11 and they told us that sealing our windows with duct tape would somehow keep us safe? Stupid as it was, duct tape suddenly sold out in cities across the country.
It's gotten so bad that I've just stopped watching TV news and stopped reading newspapers. I'd rather be uninformed than be fed misleading information.

The worst part about it all is that nobody mentions WHICH sites are changing to better serve my needs. Okay, maybe after digging far enough there's ONE link, but that hardly qualifies as "a few adult-oriented sites".

Wii is the new up-and-cummer in this big long controversy, that's why they're taking a reaming from the media right now. Maybe the media thinks they can get Nintendo to bend over and apologize... a press conference like that would be the real Money Shot for the 10 o'clock news... umm... let'see.... uhhh... boobies!

Uh, if you guys think browsing to porn on your Wii is your right, then you are missing the point. What did Nintendo build the Wii for? Why is it everyone damn right to think the Internet should be so free of standards.
When did morals become such a bad word? When did standards become something to be dssident about? I find it silly that some in the porn industry thinks it's ok to optimize there sites for the Wii. Think about that: you are using your computer to make these posts on Engadget and not the Wii, right? Use the Wii for what it's for, if you like porn that much you can't get laid either way.
We need to worry about our kids, because it's evident someone didn't care about the people who posts trash here when they were kids. If you get your dose of leadership from George Carlin and Bill Mahrer then I'll light a candle and say a prayer for you tonight. ROFL

for now, all i can really find is friiporn.com, and friipornstars.com sooo not that great of content. its more effective just to go to any porn site that uses flash, like say, pornotube.com is good enough.
not very impressive though. nothing to get excited about.
