Despite its toony appearance, Shape Boxing Wii de Enjoy Diet regards itself more seriously than the boxing in Wii Sports. There are no Miis to be found here, more technical details (such as different boxing stances) are taken into consideration across the title's 28 lessons, and the game will dole out nutritional advice in a bid to get/keep you toned. Less seriously, you can punch bears, which we don't recall seeing in Rocky IV. Anyway, the overall vibe seems to be self-improvement.
This releases in Japan on October 30th, and will use the Balance Board in some way. We're betting it could actually improve your fitness, based on the fact that we were wheezing, crimson-faced wrecks after one and a half minutes of Wii Sports boxing.
When the game was originally announced, we thought it was going to be a train wreck, and these first screens of one of the minigames in MLB Superstars, Baseball Bocci, show that not only did the train get derailed and crash into a building, but that building was also full of babies, puppies and all of the most delicious candy in the world. We hate to be so harsh, but come on. It's baseball. Why would you try to combine it with bocci? Why?
The problem with showing new images of Animal Crossing: City Folk is that, unless the screens happen to feature the new city environment, what you see ends up looking pretty much exactly like the original Crossing. Only subtle clues point to the newness, such as the lack of hats, the different clock, and, oh yeah, two player characters onscreen together. It's still very important, and it's still really exciting, it just -- happens to look a lot like Animal Crossing!
We wouldn't want it any other way. We're ready to start it all again -- picking fruit, paying off Tom Nook, meeting new neighbors, filling our catalog, pulling weeds, the whole thing. This time, we'll be able to enjoy the game over some friendly conversation!
When your sneaky ninja assassin is discovered in Tenchu IV, the target shakes your hand, laughing heartily while exclaiming "Ohhhhh, you! You almost got me that time! I gotta watch this guy!" Of course we're kidding -- he tries to murder you. In situations when you've been noticed, rather than just giving up or retrying, you now have the option to actually fight in a new first-person mode.
In alternating attack and defense phases, you use Wiimote gestures to simulate a one-on-one swordfight, battling until one of you is dead or your sword breaks. It's like Rose & Camellia, except with to-the-death ninja fights instead of Victorian-era face-reddening! Being a ninja and therefore a total jerk, you can also throw knives while fighting.
How much are we freaking out over Jaleco's Shadow of the Colossus-esque Ougon no Kizuna (Bonds of Gold)? Long answer: obviously a heck of a lot, considering we're already comparing it to the majesty of Shadow of the Colossus. Short answer: UIVJM(*RIWV%WOV&IUPO/WF.
While we previously only had scans on which to base our assessment, IGN now has full screens, allowing us to really scrutinize the unique art style of the game -- we don't think we could ever get sick of that pencil filter effect in screens, and seeing it in motion will hopefully be just as impressive. Two other shots follow the break, but we'd also urge you to hit up IGN for the full-size versions. It's blimmin' lovely.
It's been some time since we've seen anything from The Sky Crawlers, but guess what? It's still drop-dead gorgeous, though that's not particularly surprising, considering the source. There may be hope for the film -- and thus the game -- for Western audiences, too, as the film of the same name is being screened at the Venice Film Festival this week, and is sharing the spotlight (and a lot of fanfare) with Hayao Miyazaki's latest. So cross those fingers, and in the meantime, check out the lush new screens. You'll be glad you did.
Okay, so Disaster: Day of Crisis is definitely coming. Nintendo just dumped an almighty batch of almost 70 (mainly new) screens on our local press site, all of which you can find here. They predominantly feature Wolverine look-a-like Ray as he takes on such well-known natural disasters as infernos, flooding, uhm, terrorists and ... bears.
There's still no word on a release date, though this sudden burst of media fills us with bright-eyed hope, being the naïve, optimistic fools that we are.
Update:NeoGAFfers spotted an update at Nintendo's German site that let slip a few precious details on Disaster (and, yet again, mentions a Q4 2008 release date). Apparently, we'll be playing as former US marine Raymond Bryce as he drives, swims, runs, and shoots his way through 23 "different parts" (a machine translation, which we assume means "23 stages"), faces volcanoes, earthquakes, flooding, tornados, and tsunamis, and fights it out against a terrorist organization known as "SURGE." Ray's health bar needs to be constantly watched, as he will require both food and fresh air if he's to rescue citizens. And that's your lot for now!
A few details have hit about another weapon power-up for our little robotic boy in blue: the Magma Shot. As one might guess, this is the reward for slaying one of the eight bosses, Magma Man, and allows Mega Man to shoot out multiple fireballs at once. Check out the power-up, as well as some screens of Magma Man's level, in our gallery below.
Gamecock pseudo-unofficiallyconfirmed the existence of a Wii version of the Xbox Live Arcade Pirates vs. Ninjas Dodgeballduring E3. Today, they sent out an official press release announcing their intent to release the Wii Dodgeball this winter.
Aside from the obvious difference in which box you turn on to play it, the Wii version of the meme-off will feature new teams (we're hoping for bloggers), new game types including story and challenge modes, and multiple control schemes.
Included in the press release are the first three screens, which look, unsurprisingly, like the Xbox game in lower resolution. Which, for the simple, cartoony environments and character models, is just fine.
The latest Famitsu reveals a new game from Jaleco with a bit of a Shadow of the Colossus vibe. Ougon no Kizuna (Bonds of Gold) features big, climbable bosses like Team ICO's game, though not quite as big. These bosses also have specific weak points, though in this game you use the Wiimote pointer to find them. The non-boss gameplay involves using the Wiimote and Nunchuk to fight crowds of enemies.
In addition to the main quest, Ougon no Kizuna features 100 sidequests involving helping townspeople and, of course, killing monsters. With the game scheduled for a winter release, we're sure we'll find out a lot more very soon.
Okay, first of all, there are new screens for the upcoming WiiWare title. Hit them up in our gallery below, then come back here, because we're got some things we need to discuss.
Back? Good. Okay, to clarify: Bomberman Blast, the WiiWare title for download and not the retail disc, will feature Mii support and 8-person online multiplayer (up to four players can go online on the same Wii) and is officially on its way to North America. We know we told you something else before regarding the Mii stuff, but the press release that literally just landed into our inbox tells another story. So expect this to be one content-rich download.
And on top of those details, Hudson also let us know that they'll be offering online tournaments. In fact, one will even coincide with the release of the game (which is due out in Japan this fall)!
Telltale has just sent out a press release, which was chock full of screens for the next episode of Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People. As you all know, we found the first episode to be quite good (although, we never did have our copy freeze on us), so we're looking forward to this month's new episode. Oh, and along with those lovely screens (check them out in the gallery below), we've also got a new trailer for you above this very post.
Just one day before the Japanese release of Hudson's Alien Crush Returns, we're treated to new screens of the remake/sequel of the glorious Turbografx-16 pinball game. The one above appears to be one of the new boss levels (briefly seen in the trailer), in which you fire pinballs at a grotesque alien rictus.
Also highlighted: the two-player versus mode -- which is based on score and time, as far as we can tell, and not simultaneous multiplayer, but we doubt it, because that sounds amazingly insane -- interfering with each other's shots, sharing flippers, and generally just having a frustrating old time.
Just knowing that a new Crush pinball game is being released tomorrow somewhere makes the world seem like a happier, warmer place.
With Mega Man 9's September release right around the corner, it's about time that we finally caught a glimpse at one of Mega Man's new powers, the Concrete Shot. As evidenced above, it's basically like shooting some concrete out of your arm-mounted cannon. Simple enough, right?
